Quick questions. I have a tank set up in the bathroom that I plan on using for guppies. Right now I have 3 males in there, could I make it an all-male tank? And how many could I put in there? I have been told I could fit up to 20 in there (if I plant it and feed sparsely), which would be a nice display but I am also concerned about the wellbeing on the fish.

How big is it?
Make sure it has a few plants though as they like a little hiding place!
Be careful not to splash bubble baths, deodorants etc into the water! Supgourami hasa TERRIBLE experience.

good luck to you and fish,

Flag

Please don't put 20 guppies in a 10 gallon tank. I would say 5 or 6 would be a better number.

I have heard stories about aggression in male-only tanks, but I have also heard about aggression of males competing for females, too. I would go ahead with an all-male tank. I've got a tank with only male endlers (a relative of the guppy) and have never experienced a problem--they all got along great.

Also male + female guppies = seriously overcrowded 10 gallon tank in no time. ;)

P.S. An excellent is point made by Flagfish--beware of hairspray, soap etc. getting into a bathroom-situated tank.

Just dont put like 9 males and 1 female by mistake. They'll be consantly fishting over the female.

Yeah I've heard about that, and they end up exasperating the female to death....

I always worry about the products getting into the water, especially since I am making due with a wire reptile-tank-lid for now since... I try to be careful around it and I always keep fresh carbon running (that would help absorb any chemicals or products, right?)

I don't know about planting it, I was using it as a temporary up until a few days ago and I endedu p taking a lot of the gravel out to help with cleaning and buildup and such, so there's just a thin layer of gravel on there now. The three males I have have half-black bodies and very pale neon blue fins... I think i'll get some brighter blues and some blue-greens.

flagfish- it's a 10 gallon tank.

Yeah, I think 20 guppies would be way too much. Like Ms. Bubbles said, five or six would probably be a really safe number to go with. IMO, I think you could *maybe* squeeze in a couple more than that, but it would be kinda pushing things. >_o
