I have a 37 gallon tank and my guppies are multiplying like mad. I also have a 20 gallon betta tank that I was hoping to put the female guppies in (in order to cut back on the reproduction). My question is... do you think female guppies and the siamese fightin' fish will get along?

It all depends on the betta. Females have the long tails that make bettas think the guppy is another betta. Personally, I'd say go for it. But if the guppies show any sign of stress because of the betta harassing them, seperate them.

I've kept a fighter with guppies before and it was fine. The fighter didn't even take notice and my guppy males have long fins!

Just remember that even separating the females from the males it won't really cut back on reproduction as female guppies store sperm for anywhere up to 6 months!

Yeah, I figured trial and error would be the best way to go about it. The female guppies are less colorful and are almost bland. The males are the real colorful ones (I would be afraid of putting them in with a betta). Well, I think I am going to try it out. I'll post back with results.

Oh wow. Yeah, those bettas... they are in their own little world. 6 months? I am almost over stocked as it is. Do you know if it is possible to sell guppy fry to LFS? I want more of a variety of fish in my tank, but these guppies are just taking up ALL the room.

Unless you're talking show guppies, most LFS's will laugh at you if you want money for guppies.

Do you separate the fry from the adults or just let them in with the big fish? If I leave the fry in the big tank the big guppies eat their fry. It like a population control.

AS for selling them you can but ask. Mine local specialist always told me if I got too many they would take them.

If I was in you'r position I'd put the females in the other tank and if you end up with fry just leave them in the tank the betta's might eat them.

It's not even that I would sell them to try to make money. I just want to humanely get rid of them. I do not separate the fry. Every guppy ever born in my tank has survived. I think you are right, Ava... maybe the betta will eat the small newborn fry.
