Can one male and 1-2 female fit OK in a 2.5g or would 5g be better? Thanks

I originally had Four White Cloud Mountain Minnows (which are smaller than guppies) in a three gallon and they seemed crowded. And with guppies you will most likely end up with more than three since you have two females and a male. I think a five gallon minimum, but I would go for a ten gallon.

i wouldn't recommend either of those tank sizes for breeding guppies. forget about the 2.5 completely. you could use the 5g for three male guppies, but only for males. otherwise you WILL have baby fish and that will cause your tank to be overstocked quickly, and water conditions in such a small tank can go bad overnight. full-grown females also get quite a bit larger than males. 3 males would be fine. if you wanted to have females as well, a 10g would be okay, and a 20-30g would be better. they reproduce so quickly.

If you want to raise the fry, a three or a five gallon in addition to a ten or twenty gallon that the adults are using would be helpful.

they may be because there are no females in the tank to distract them. the limited space may also play a factor, for when fish are forced in tight quarters they become more aggressive with one another. 2 would probably be better for a 5 gallon (you can have some cherry shrimp on the bottom to add some activity to the tank)

I had three male guppies with two females in a 20gal and the males were always nipping at each other and taking chunks out of each other's tails. After I added more females, they settled down a bit. Of course, now I have babies to find a home for...

I always thought that the female albino krib was the one, I guess it was the male guppy (common x fancy) was taking bites out of one of the male's tail :S

I guess I just had too many females (low male to female ratio)...

The 2.5 gallon is definitely too small. The 5 gallon for guppies would be the minimum. In this case, you can get either 3 male OR 3 female guppies, I would personally recommend females. Females tend to live better together than males do from what I have heard. I have never owned guppies, so I am not 100% sure about that, but I do have 2 female platies in a 10 gallon tank, and they do not bother each other.
