Guppy problems

well I had a talk with one of the lfs gals and she told me that she would reccomend a product called PraziPro. I gave it a try and all looks good so far. I know half a day seems a little early but the rest of the gang seems to be doing great. I have isolated the two girls that are not feeling well and one of them has started to eat. I hope I have turned a corner. I dont have any numbers on the water tests as I am currently using Jungle quick dip test strips. Accorting to the strips NO3=20ppm, NO2=0, GH= 75ppm, KH=40ppm and PH=7.0.

Let us know how the prazi pro works, It is supposedly one of the better drugs available for flukes, but I didn't know it was being reccomended for a broad band internal parasite med. If your internal nasties are in fact something it will kill that is great. I am currently using Prazi for (suspected) gill flukes and can say that whatever caused my fish to flash died within a day after the prazi hit the tank. Prazi is largely similar to Met in the fact that overdosing is difficult, and it effects nothing else in the tank that I can see.
I am really suprised you found Prazi that quickly, It's scarce around here and scarce on-line as well. If it doesn't get the job done hand on to it in the event of flukes some day and go with the Met. If it gets the job done let us know your thoughts and assesments when you get through it.
Also if you are intersested, the Skeptical aquarist mentions PRaziquantel in their Fluke article, and links it up to Koivet which has a pretty good write up as well.

Oh, Dave, I was going to mention this since you've been doing the Prazi shuffle of late, looking for it. Jungle Parasite Clear in their "tank buddies" line is Praziquantel. It also lists metro as one its ingredients. It was cheap and I found it at Wal-Mart. So, you might want to give it a shot sometime and compare... of course, I hope you never have to use prazi or metro again, but if you do. ;)

Problem with Most store bought guppies are that you wind up buying old and poor quality fish. Yes, they are pretty but they grow them in massive breeding colonies and keep them till they are large old fish. So we wind up seeing these fish that will only last a short time in the tank. :(
I prefer trying to find a local breeder and buying some off of them. They tend to be of better stock and quality.

Now For the treatment of internal parasites. The only way to get rid of an internal parasite is to feed it food that has been treated. The best treatments I have found is Garlic. Garlic will kill any internal parasite and they sell foods that contains it now. Or you can always crush your garlic and feed it to them that way as well. Plus raise the temp a few notches, maybe this will help your fish.

Also, Livebearers tend to stress out during birth of fry. So if you can, make sure they have plenty of room to hide in the tank. Pick up some hornwort and float it on top of the tank. This will give the females a place to hide and give birth to the fry. Plus the fry will be able to hide as well and feed of the infusia living off the plants.

I think the Prazi did the trick. They all seem to be doing great! (Knock on wood) The only thing going now is one of the female’s came down with a wicked case of fin rot. A little med for that and bada bing. At this point I would 100% recommend the Prazi-pro. Looks like the fish feel good enough for a little fornicating. I really need to get to learn a way to more accurately guess when the females are ready to drop!
