Hi guys,
When I woke up this morning I had 6 little baby guppies in my breeding tank, (Ieei, it was so exciting!!!!), but the mom still seems to have a big belly and the black spot is still there. Does anyone know: how long it takes for the mom to deliver all the babies? and is she going to deliver more since I have not seen any new ones since this morning. She is awfully agitated trying to catch the ones she already delivered, but of course she can't because of the divider. I hope that's not what is keeping her from deliver the other ones.

guppies can hold 'sperm packs' for months, so its very possible that the black (gravid) spot is a new batch of babies that will be born at a later date. I tend to give mommy a few days to see if shell drop any more fry and to rest. congrats on your little ones though! its so cool to be able to watch them grow and get color when they are older!

Thanks,
I will do that, although she sure seems eager to live the breeding tank. It is inside the big tank so I guess she can see the other fish swimming happily and most of all freely and she wants to be there too. I am very happy with six little ones; I just don't want any to be eaten, if she still has to deliver more.

i have guppies and mollies in the same aquarium and both had babies around the same time...about two weeks ago. there were 4 baby guppys and two baby mollies. The adult fish in the tank didn't really seem too interested in them although, for the first few days they remained in hiding.

knowing there were some pregrant fish in the tank i got several fake plants to put in the aquarium to add cover for the little fry to hide in. so far, no fatalities and i didn't bother seperating them from the adult fish.

I had two guppies get huge quickly, then drop their broods almost overnight. Fortunately, I'd put each in a net breeder.

They each had about 40+ fry. Just amazing.

I had a young platy just drop 22.
