Guppy Qustion

I have two pairs of guppies, and one of my male guppies tail is all torn up. It doesnt look like he has any fungus or disease on him, the question is this: Does he have some sort of tail rot, or is my other male beating up on him?

It could easily be a ripped tail. Watch them closely to look for signs of aggression. If it is just males in the tank then the agression is usually less than if there is females to fight over. Do you have sharp rocks or plastic plants? The tails can get snagged and ripped.

I have a 10 gallon tank, with a store bought rock that looks like it came from the lion king, it looks sharp, but when i touch it it feels smooth. i do have plastic plants in my tank. I have two male guppies and two female guppies, i thought that if i got two of each they would each have a girl and then they wouldnt fight. I have noticed that the more agressive male does chase the other alittle, i think that may be the prob.

Guppies don't really 'get' monogamy. The more aggressive male will keep chasing the other male away. I would remove either both females, or one male. It will be a much happier tank.

Yeah, it sounds like you created a little war zone there. The one males fins will grow back but he will probably be harrassed to death before then. If you don't necessarily want baby guppies then I would just stick to males only and get another couple of them.

yeah i think that his days are numbered, he is staying close to the bottom and in the corner. so you guys think that the problem was the other guppy, and not sickness. i did have some fish with ich a few days ago, but they are in a different tank right now.

Well he didnt make it, i seperated him from the rest of the fish earlier and put him in a coffee mug that i never use. i know that wasnt the right kind of med tank to use, but i am in a dorm and thats all i had. he is laying at the bottom and when i looked at him he swam to the top and then layed back down again. I am really bumed because he was a very pretty fish, his tail was blue and he looked awesome.

oh well so now i have one male guppy and two females, i also have a pair of marble lyretail mollies, and two black skirts(in a friends tank because of ich).
