hi i was just reading an article in some magazine (forget which one) and the coloumnist was saying how there was a viral infection out there right now that for some reason was in guppies and transmitted to angels somehow - he said it came out of asian bred fish and he went on to say even if fish were quarantined for a month he would still be iffy on moving them to their main tanks -

this concerns me because yesterday before i saw this article i bought a trio of guppies who by all accounts seem healthy. They are in my qt right now - i keep some angels in my 55 g and bought the guppies for color and i figure if they breed the fry are a good live food source -

has anyone heard about this virus and if so how quickly would i notice it? symptoms? Would the guppies just die soon while in qt? I put them in my qt tank with a few danios i bought a day earlier so if they got anything will it kill off the zebras too? I'm scared now and considering not even keeping the fish - what should i do? any help is great - thank you!

It usually effects them in 3-6 weeks after getting them. Looks almost identical to Neon Tetra disease, and it is transmittable, I lost some Cape Lopez Lyretail Killies to it. Just do a good long QT and if they are fine after 6-8 weeks you should be safe. It is most prevalent in Thai bred fish, in the last decade the fish coming out of Thailand have gotten worse and worse, and the sad part is most wholesalers in the USA get their fish from those breeders in Thailand, because they are cheap.

I put them in qt with a few zebra danios i have - if they have anything would the zebras come down with it? also if the guppies have something will they soon get sick? what symptoms should i look for? i'm not familiar with what neon tetra disease looks like -

thanks again!
