Ok, since no one else will admit it (and I can't be the only one), I have no idea what the whole joke is. I've never had hair algae, I've never even seen it. So I'm guessing from the way everyone thinks the auction or selling it is funny, that hair algae is something you don't want? That once you get it you can't get it to go away? Or something like that?

If you really want a good laugh, check out that guy's feedback. One of the "winners" of the auction just hopes that the plant will be as prolific as described, or something to that effect.
