Hair algae question

First where does it come from. My tank has been algae free for months and now I have this crap in my grass. Also is it hair algae? It looks like a thin form of java moss.
 
Need a little more info....Size of tank, what kind of light, how long lights on, do you have plants, parameters, ect.
 
38g, 192w, co2-2bps, dose- trace daily, NPK fe every other day.
Lights on 10hr/day, water changes 50% 2-3x/week.
I got some HC from Singapore a few weeks ago but thats the only plant that hasn't come from my tanks in months
 
you have pix? ive been battling hair algae that seems to have started up from that big chunk of microsword i got from you a while back, matt.. i take out a bunch of it daily, maybe we have the same stuff.
 
really? I never saw hair algae until today. You know how much light is on my tanks too. And the hair algae is on the HC and the gravel around it in much smaller quantities than what I pulled out of my hair grass today.
I'm sorry if I did that to you.

oh, im not mad about the hair algae.. i just havent had the time to buckle down and tweak the tank params to get it to go away.. im still battling the GW in the 75g, havent had much time to deal with that either. i'm really getting tempted to buy a bunch of dry ferts and go get some pressurized CO2.
 
I understand the theory behind out competing algae with plants but My plants grow so fast I have to trim every few days and the hair still showed up. I also still get green spot algae all the time.
I'm working on a solution.
