Hello everyone,
I am a bit nervous! tonight I noticed a couple of hairline cracks in my 29g aqaurium. There doesnt appear to be any condensation or anything between the 2 layers of glass, but still, I am nervous that if I do a water change or something the whole glass is going to blow! Has anyone had this problem before? any advice? are my fish and hardwood floors (in which water is the enemy) going to die?!! I'm just totally stressing out...
Thanks again for any advice!

if they are indeed cracks, and not scratches, then you could have a ticking time bomb on your hands. In most cases that I have seen with cracks, it's not a matter of if they will crack but when they will crack.

Sorry:(

What two panes of glass are you talking about.Condensation?A little clarification would help.

Ok, It feels like the aquarium has 2 layers of glass b/c if I stick my hand and use my fingernail to scrape the crack I can feel it with my nail. but if I scrape my nail against the outside then it feels smooth, so I am assuming there are 2 layers of glass?
the "cracks" are so fine that they almost look like cobwebs, and you have to really look to see them. they are not huge wide obvious cracks or anything, but nonetheless, I am scared! I am pretty meticulous with my fish, and have never noticed them before, but again, they are so fine I may have missed them.

Are they deep? When did you get the tank? How old is it now. If it's kinda new, couple months old, I think you can get a replacement for free if you show the person who sold you the tank the warranty.

sounds like a scratch to me.I have never seen a tank with two layers of glass.I think the reason you cant feel it on both sides. Is that its a scratch on one side.In 25 yrs of fish keeping I have only had one tank blow out and it was bumped into rather hard.

yeah Im thinking you will be ok, but id change the water and maybe put some silicone over it just in case, let it dry and then put water back in. Also, if your really nervous you could lower your water level a little and ssurround the thing with towels.

Good luck... and tanks only have once piece of glass... it seems like a scratch to me.

Cracked tank, hardwood floors. For the $50 bucks it would cost to buy a new bare tank, I would replace it. Just get the same dimensions and do the switch over in a day. Use same gravel, filter, decorations and all that. It's a lot cheaper than repairing the floors.
