halogen light

Can some one explain this to me. I looked at a halogen light for my aquarium and it looks just like the ones i have in my garage. I know the bulbs are different but the reset is the same, right? If not explain how they are different. All so if i use flourescent bulbs on my reef and i use 4 10k lights is that enought?

Halogen lights don't provide the spectrum you want for an aquarium, and produce a lot of heat.

What wattage fluorescent are you looking at?

Due to regulations most halogens have a UV filter built into them. Not great for a reef tank. And the heat is horrible as well.

Once again, my aging brain is addled. Stephen, are you talking about metal halide or halogen? You can get relatively inexpensive metal halide setups at Home Depot, but the spectrum is wrong.

Halogen lights are really just incandescent lights running at really high temperatures. Not much usable light per watt, and a lot of heat.

okay i have a metal halide that hold 2 flourescent bulbs. right now i have 2 coral life 10000K flourescents in it.

This is a reef optix III.
If you change the buld out in the shop lamps wouldnt it be the same?
as for saying they get hot, there are some new ones that dont put out the heat like the old ones.
