i have several friends that have used this in their tanks...and i ahve seen many ghost knifes in these at lfs's...of course they would go through it!
Hamster tubes in a fish tank

i have had a hamster tube in my tank for quite some time now. Actually, it's been moving from tank to tank cos i keep changing my set-ups.
anyways, the first tank to have it was my balloon mollies' and something very tragic, yet comic happened. one of the mollies had her head chopped off by the filter and was swimming alive around the tank without half of her face(needless to say, i put her down) and the other balloon mollies got so scared that all ELEVEN of them hid inside the hamster tube! i confess i cracked up!
later i moved the tube to the QT tank and my goldies liked to swim through it too!
