"Hands Free" Is Safer...

We weren't allowed to use a microwave growing up :( . My mom still gets after me for using one.

The distortion on the CRT screen is also caused by the magnet in the speaker of the cell phone. hold your headset/headphones/speaker/magnet up to the screen and you may very well see the same thing.
Though, i'm probably slowly getting microwaved anyway. right now I have about 4 computers sitting around me. (Hrmm....and i wonder why I get dizzy staring at the screen some times.)
Of course, up in my neck of the woods cell phones don't work half the time anyway

To make it short, IMO, using a hands free device for your cell phone will not protect you from most dangers. ...
Guess I should have mentioned at the beginning that I do get a headache from my cell without the hands free wire. Maybe I need to trade in my LG phone. Also, while using it, various conversations had no effect on the slight headache. Some college tested the tin foil hat and I don't think it worked. Research and more research might make it happen! :D

Really? Are you kidding me?

Maybe your headache is not caused by the cell phone, but by an alien culture that considers you an ambassador trying to comunicate directly into your brain. :joe:

I never tried it with the cell phone "completely turned off." Could a tiny magnet in the cell phone do that? I thought it was from RFI (radio frequency interference).. Where's my old CRT? Does Radio Shack still have some on display?

It's caused by the electromagnetic field your cellphone emits. A magnet has a magnetic field - both do the same thing.
If you know how a CRT (or TV) screen works its easy to explain. You have electrons travel inside the tube towards the screen. If a magnetic field (from a magnet, cellphone, cb-radio, power supply etc) gets close enough it will alter the flight path of the electrons. So they don't hit the right spot on your screen -> you see a distortion.
There are no little magnets in cellphones. If its (completely) shut off it shouldn't do anything to you screen (or health).

I thought it was the RF that could cause problems...
