"Hands Free" Is Safer...

SAR testing is an FCC regulation.

I work for a compliance lab & all of our radios (cells, etc) go out for SAR testing. Its been this way for years.

So the FCC says there is no danger in cell phone useage - even in excess? Just asking, since one study says one thing then another says something else - kinda like all the coffee studies that keep coming out.

Well, its up to the manufacturers to comply with the FCC's regulations. If you buy a cheap/ off-brand phone, or if your phone is 5 years old or damaged, you might need to worry more than if you buy a big-name brand. If you pop the battery out and see an FCC ID#, you are probably very safe though. There should also be some literature in the user's manual regarding all the levels of compliance.

One thing that worries me is people talking while pumping gas. There are clear warning signs at stations saying to not do this. ....and as someone here posted stating they saw interference on a CRT with their phone nearby, obviously, some phones emit more RF or magnetic radiation than they should. This radiation is a low level voltage, typically in the micro-volt range, however, if a call is active, the transmitter is driving & there is an intentional high level voltage present in the form of an RF transmission. Personally, I don't want this anywhere near me while I'm fueling my car.

I've had people almost laugh at that "situation" but it doesn't take much for static electricity to build up.

I won't use the cell at the pumps, but I'll still use the cord with the earpiece and mic buil into it.

It seems LG wasn't on the list, but maybe its listed under another manufacturer.

LG makes the phone, but not necessarily the radio module. You can search on their FCC ID to find any specific details.

LG's start with BEJ, but the details of the certification should provide any additional info. Like if they are using a motorola radio module.

Ever whatch Mythbusters? They actually proved that a cellphone is not what causes fires or explosions at gas pumps, but more from the electrostatic disharge that builds up on your clothes when you slide out of the seat of your car when you get out to pump gas, which is why you should always though something metal on your car to discharge electricity before you pump the gas.
