I use the 12" Aquafuge. If I had room, I would love to go with a real tank, but it will do for the moment.
It works pretty well. With a 13W PC light over it, I get enough chaetomorpha growth to pull out a few handfuls a month. The amphipods, bristleworms, spaghetti worms and strombus snails are multiplying like crazy in there. My Hawaiian fanworm has been there for almost a year, because the clowns play soccer with it whenever it's in the main tank.
I have modified it to run off the closed loop, so I can avoid having another powerhead in the tank, and I undid the siphon return, so it's just an overflow now.
