I have this algae growing in my tank that is very hard to scrape off. I have tried using a paper towel and sponge but it will not come off. It is a green color if you are wondering and my bristle nosed pleco will get on it but it is not going away. Next I'm going to run a razor over to scrape it off. Can anyone tell me what kind of algae this is and how to prevent it? .

It sounds like green spot algae to me. Yes, there are some alga that are too hard to remove with a soft rag or paper towel. I use a scrubbing pad designed for aquaria, or a scraper. The scraper looks like a razor blade but does not have an edge sharp enough to cut oneself on :) It is pretty normal to have spot algae in tanks. It just takes a little elbow grease to remove. I don't know of any animals that will eat it. So my solution would be to just take the time to scrape it off here and there.

I use a toothbrush for removing green spot. Works pretty well for a glass tank. But use a toothbrush that will be dedicated specifically for that purpose only ok? Anyway, I'm pretty sure you won't use the same brush that you use for your teeth  jk man
