Hard water build ip

Looking at my well water report I can't find hardness but nitrate it says results 6,410 and units was ug/l. Not sure if that tells you anything?

I'll probably buy a water test kit, anyone suggest a certain brand?

Dudley I will try that o-ring repair! I'll check that clear plastic sight part to see if there are any cracks while at it.
 
I'm not at all sure what that nitrate # means! ! API tests are available & for our hobby purposes, good enough. An API Master Test kit & GH/KH should last you for a few years, The expiration date is the last 3 # digits on the front label, ie; ???417 expires April 2017

Different measurements or units are often listed on water reports so a conversion chart comes in handy. I usually see mg/l (milligrams per liter) or PPM (parts per million).

6410 ug/l converts to 6.41 mg/l after a quick internet search so your well water starts out with a low nitrate level at the time the test was done though this can vary depending on the time of year and your location.

Odd that the well water report doesn't list hardness though it may be listed as CaCo3 so double check.

Also see if the report lists Iron level or if you can, post the well test results but blank out personal info.

I also have a private well and use the API Master Kit + GH (hardness) and KH (alkalinity) test kits for my aquarium water tests.

Doesn't hurt to check the sight glass though it may not be the problem. Another possibility is if the disconnect tap o-rings are worn though I'm not positive that would cause leaks into the pump head but they are a wear item.
 
I'll try and post the water test results from township.

For the CLR (had some actually at home and didn't know score!) do you just pour it on and scrape with razor?
 
Wow, quite a detailed report!

I don't see any results for hardness but you can always do this test yourself if you buy the GH and KH aquarium kits.

The pH test was odd; the 1st page lists it at 4.88 and the last page at 6.55 so I'm not sure what is going on with that. Again, you can buy a pH test for aquarium use so you can test your tap water prior to use.
 
Oh there was even more pages lol. Yea I was confused too, I know they were going test straight from well and then also after the water system so who knows.

I'll be getting the test kit to find out!
 
Well, I didn't see anything to raise alarms. The nitrate is listed in the next to last screen. Your water has "some"... but I didn't look at the testing method or what that might mean. API is what I'm used to, a ppm range...yeah, get an API test! But until you do, some lfs test water for free. Ask to see the actual results, not just "it's ok".
 
API "Master kit" drop tests are WAY better than strips....but I have used strips just for comparison testing. Strips are just ok & many lfs use them...better than no tests but a bit iffy with large ranges of results. Hint: the last 3 digits stamped on the front label are expiration dates, ie; ???417 expires April 2017. They are generally good for 3+ years...if new
