I am starting a 75 gallon freshwater native tank. I am using local aquatic plants (collected from local lakes/streams). I am in the Pocono Mtns area of PA and our water is "very" soft. I set up the tank and the GH is 0 and the KH is 1. The plants come from very soft water so they should do OK but will do better if I can increase the hardness. I have read that household items can be used to increase hardness. Does anyone have any ideas and know in what amounts? If not what commercial product can be used. I see the Kent product to add to RO water adds hardness but I am not starting with RO (using well water) and I don't want to add what is already in the water ( I have a conditioner that adds Soda Ash [sodium carbonate] to the house water supply giving me a pH of 7.2) . Any suggestions?
