Harlequin Rasbora/Scarlet Badis Compatibility?

I dont think Ill be keeping the harlequins to max size (2") - they're only about 1" now.

Squawkbert - are you thinking of badis badis? The scarlet badis actually doesn't get larger than 1 inch.

You're right (I was looking too) - I confused Dario dario w/ Scarlet badis. Darios are larger. No aggression problems - provided adequate space (in a 10g, I still thnk a pair is enough).

Also, I agree that Harlequins seldom reach 2" (mine are *maybe* 1.3") and I further agree that the 1" per gallon rule is junk given the potential mass differences between torpedo and bathtub shaped fish of the same length and the bioload differences between predators and herbivores.

My Harlies also max out at around 1.3 inches. I think 5 harliquens and 2 scarlets would work fine bioload wise.

Dario Dario IS NOT larger than Badis Badis. Badis Badis grow to around 4 inches-Dario Dario stays at about 1.5 cm. I would love to see a dario dario try to annoy a harly, heh. Mine attacked everything in my tank (I had peaceful fish in the 1-1.5 inch range) but dario dario does not stand a change against most fish just due to size. Also, I've never heard of anyone having an experience like mine.
There is a red morph of badis badis, which is also known as the scarlet badis, which is why I stick to the scientific name, lol.

Yep - I keep mixing them up - Badis badis is the larger of the two species, and even sticking to binomial nomenclature is of little help as names have been changed (Dario dario used to be Badis bengalensis).

Things are just about as screwed up here as they are with Rams.
