can anyone tell if they are, we dont have them anymore....they passed away...had them for over 2 years...

One of my all time favorite fish. Just to confuse things more, there are 2 color variations of true harlequins, gold & black. I have a mixed group of regular, gold & espei.

idk than. i kinda want to get some of the CPDs but at the same time i really dont want to pay that much for a fish which is the problem im having with the store cardinals. 4 bucks a peice is outragous. and its the same price for CPDs.

I had the rusty color harlequins years back. Once they're comfortable in the tank, the colors were really amazing. Saw R. hengeli at my LFS recently and contemplating getting a school of them. I like smaller fish in my 55G; that way, I can keep more.

austinp: 4 bucks per CPD is not bad if they're close to an inch or larger. My first batch of CPDs cost me $7.50 each. The same LFS I bought them from recently lowered the price to $4.50, but the fish were also smaller, around 3/4" or so. They're definitely much hardier than cardinals and will zip all over the tank once they overcome their shyness. I have 7 cardinals in my tank with my 5 CPDs. The cardinals are getting too big too quick for me. They're real plump and close to 1.5". I'm considering going back to green neon tetras for the smaller size, but I do like the red coloring on a cardinal.

personally i find that price expensive. but i guess thats becuz i dont have much money to spend still (I WANT A FREAKIN JOB) and im trying to make what small amount of cash i have last.

Heh heh, I got 5 true harlies from Walmart for 2$ each :D And they're all tightly schooling today! I like the hengelis, though, and I think I've seen them for sale for 4$ each... Hmm...

Meemee, yours were deffinately true harlies. Sorry for the loss  :tombstone:

4$ cardinals? Where?! That's a great price around here :swear:

i have a school of true harlies, and they are all over the tank, and incredibly active... they school at some times during the day- like feeding time and in the afternoon- but each do their own thing the rest of the time. they love the bottom of the tank as much as the top, and they're hyper little *******s, too. i can't for the life of me get one to stay still long enough to get a picture lol but i LOVE my harlies, and i can't wait to have a bigger tank so i can have more >.>

Mine are full-grown, and tend to nip at each others' fins. :( There are morning when I wake up and see all my harlies with shredded fins. It's really sad. They recover quickly, though.

Moral of the story, don't underestimate their full-grown size!
