harlequin rasbora

The harlies I bought at Petsmart are true harlies. They were pale in the store tank and got brighter at home over the next few days.

i like the look of the true ones better. are the ones at petsmart normally the espie??? or do they tend to carry the true ones?

also do they have a (OMG I CANT THINK OF THE WORD AGAIN!!!) shinny sheen to them under bright lights?

OOC pronunciation on Espie:

Ess- Pee?
Ess- Pie?
Ess- Pay?

Or is the "ES" pronounced "Ezz"?

I'm guessing Ess-Pee but want to make sure I'm pronouncing it right.

I have a little school of 7 true harlies. They are the most active fish in my aquarium (well minus my cories). They usually are in a fairly tight school going back and forth in the upper level of my aquarium. They even like to ride the current coming from my filter. I don't think the little guys sleep. I have yet to see them stop moving.

well from all the positive things i have heard about them i think im going to go ahead and buy a few, i dont see what it would hurt seeing as they are cheap as hell.

You'll love them, Austin, especially once they mature.

mine do the same thing! they LOVE to ride the flow from the waterfall to the bottom of the tank, around to the sides, and then back up. it's so funny, they drop like rocks and then take their sweet time floating back up. i've never seen mine calm and "sleeping" either. always playing.

i got 7 true harlys for 70p each!! thats about $1.50 i think! goooo meeee my lfs rocksssssss

Yup! You're absolutely right about most fish stores not having true harlys. Well... at least the two closest to me... would never have bothered to confirm they were selling the right fish had I not read this... would have just assumed that's what they were.

I checked both Super Pets and Petsmart this weekend- one had- (to my untrained eye- not the slightest hint of red, or pink) what I believe is Espei and the other looks like those Hengels. Tempted to get 4 of each- but the more stores I buy from the more chance of disease I guess.

Which of the two grow largest and closest to the true harlequins in size? Espei look the most similar.

Both look very nice fish though so it's not worry they're not true Harlequins.
