Has anyone ever tried mixing Barbs with Zebra Danios and what other fish?

Is it doable? From what ive read and heard, its ok. But opinions are always welcome.

Also, any suggestions for some 2-3 inch top to middle dwelling fish would be great!

I currently have.....(72 gallon)

2 dwarf gouramis
3 clown loaches
2 diamond tetras
5 ottos
2 platies
6 rams
4 Harliquin rasboras
6 Tiger barbs

I need some top dwellers though as most of my fish are bottom to mid dwellers.

Yes, barbs can mix with danios. They are very nippy guys, as you should know, just as long as you don't get LONG-finned or fancy danios.

I would have said no tiger barbs with the rams but you seem to be doing fine I guess.. the danio's should be just fine in there but there are some other fish that might be just as good and more colorful. there are several types of rainbows that don't get too large, celebese and dwarf neon praecox are a couple very nice additions. A nice fish that prettymuch stays at topwater is any of the panchax or lampeyes. The "golden wonder killiefish" or "golden panchax" (same fish) are often found in LFS and chain stores. I've started to see sporadic findings of blue panchax and even found an odd lampeye at a petco once. The panchax are good jumpers (just found two dried up carcasses last night) so make sure you have a covered tank for sure. Another topwater fish that requires a covered tank is a hatchetfish. I've never kept any but they look very enticing. I think they're basically an odd-shaped topwater tetra. There are also some other rasbora species that might work for you. Scissortail rasboras are found even at wal-mart and I've seen brilliant rasboras (goldish with an orange stripe and fins) at a few LFS and petsmarts. Kyle

Thanks guys, any other colourful sugestions for top to middle dwelling fish that dont grow too large and can be kept with my barbs, who are for the most part very calm?
