I know that when the fish become covered with little white spots that is Ich. At first I thought thats what my fish had but in the last few days the white spots have grown into a white string kind of thing. They are just growing out of the fish, they are about 2mm long...Has anybody ever had this happen before???

Sounds like parasites.

that sounds like parasites, or a bad bacterial infection with secondary fungus (if it looks kinda cottony).
