Haunted Places Index

We used to go to this cemetary when I was a teenager...there really are many strange things that go on there.
Decatur - Greenwood Cemetery - Arguably the most haunted cemetery in central Illinois. Greenwood is home to "the Greenwood Bride" who can be frequently seen and heard weeping. , The Civil War section is filled with Confederate prisoners who died from yellow fever. Their bodies were buried in unmarked graves. Many say that these soldiers still walk the hills of Greenwood Cemetery and will even confront you. and a host of other spirits who prowl the confines of this large graveyard. For decades Ghost lights have been reported on the southern edge of the graveyard.

My cousin went to M.U. and he say's there is truth to this also.
Decatur - Milliken University - There are a number of ghosts who hang around the 150 year old campus. In the main theater, there is a ghost called "Track girl" for whom the performers leave candy before a show to ensure that all things will be well.

I tried to go here a few times...but would end up with a panicy feeling and ended up to scared to go in. I had friends that did go and swore they would never go back and the No trespassing sign is definatly there. I was a very eery place, you would even see strange things "like warning you" along the way.
Oakly Township - Pecks Cemetery - Glowing dots have been seen floating in mid air, wolfs howling, and sounds of feet running and when you look there isn't anything there. - There is a NO TRESPASSING here. You MUST have permission. You could get shoot. so absolutly DO NOT GO AT NIGHT.

This is my hometown here:
Taylorville - Andersons Cemetery (cemetery X) - This cemetery is filled with creepy paranormal activity. There is an old part of the cemetery that in the daytime is unreachable. Only after dark will the trees part and the path appears again to the ancient tombstones. Also haunted by a specter wolf that is said to chase trespassers.
We never made it to the "unreachable" part of this cemetery, they left out the "witchs" chair if you sat in it at night you would get weird feelings and it would feel like someone was holding your arms when you went to get up.

Taylorville - Stone Cabin - It is said that if you go out there you will see a dead dog and it's said to be sitting at the front entrance of the building only it's head. And there is a bridge right after it that if you walk across it you have brought bad luck upon yourself, and a girl was hung out there on that bridge. If you go into the back room of that cabin know matter how cold it is it becomes very warm. - Warning if caught trespassing you could get arrested.
This is another place I never made it to, we would walk at night and try to go up there but you would end up hearing dogs barking and the sound of something running at you...we always ended up turning and running back.

Taylorville - Witch's Bridge - In the 1800's a woman was hung off the side of this bridge for being a witch. Since then, it is said that if you stop on the bridge late at night you will hear footsteps. If you stay too long, it might take a minute to restart your car. Also, strange lights flicker over the creek below
We did do this a few times a couple of the times we went the car would do that, and the lights are true also.

There were several other places not listed here that we use to visit, and there was always strange lights, sounds, and feeling to them all. Of coarse it could be your mind playing tricks on you, then again you just never know.

Nice link - thanks!

________

The Sycamore Theatre, Sycamore, IL... I go there all the time, and I've never heard cries and moans... oh well.

Victoria - Melbourne - Luna Park - Over fifty years ago, a crazy joker ghost terrorized people on rides and threw things.

Victoria - Melbourne - Methodist Ladies' College - When MLC was first opened in around 1890, there was a girl who was a boarder. Her name was Nelly. She was said to either have killed herself, or to have died from a disease. Some people say that they have seen her haunting the top room of the boarding house, which was her room.

Victoria - Melbourne - Victoria Market - Victoria Market was Melbourne's first general cemetery, and still contains over 50,000 bodies buried there. Included is Melbourne's founder, John Batman, who is buried under a statue of him in the car park. There are two bush-ranger ghosts that walk around the stalls in the fruit section

The first one sounds a bit suss... I've been there many times and never heard of that story... it was over 50 years ago though, not much mystery to it

Hampton - Chamberland Hotel - This hotel is on Fort Monroe. Apparently, when the original hotel burnt down, a young teenage girl went with it by accident. She was looking for her father (who evacuated already). Employees on the seventh floor on where she died claim that they can still hear her banging on the walls, or catch her looking out the window.

This is true, I swear lol
I can see the Chamberland from my house, and me and my friend could have sworn we saw a person leaning against the window on one of the higher levels of the building when we went over there.
They're doing construction on it now.
