Have you ever had someone ask you for advice on how to do something and then argue with you about it or just go about it completely different than what you suggested? It's like why waste my time if you aren't going to listen.

yeah, i have. and to me that says they don't want advice at all, they just want someone to tell them what they want to hear.. so i just quit. its not worth my time.

I get that all the time at work. They never listen . Oh and the best is when they come back in and say well she said it would be ok for to put these fish together, etc. But those who work with me know me better .

I think that it has happened to a lot of people. It has happened to me. I have also seen it happen here on Aquaria Central.

Unfortunately I have been known to be one of those people once in a while:o, like when I built a DIY carbon filter to remove meds from my hospital tank and wanted to know if I could put the siliconed filter in before the 48 hours that the silicone instructions said to wait and everyone said to wait longer than the instructions said but I put it in early anyways. Although I decided to listen to everyone and I took it out after I thought about it for a while.

I just find it so irritating because I do have other things to be doing than to simply waste my breathe. I don't mind helping out but at least listen to what I am saying and maybe even try it. Nothing is worse that explaining something and have that person go to someone else, get their idea and then go about what ever is the easiest and most likely wrong (perhaps). I gave some advice the other day and thought that the person would perform their duty the way I suggested but he came back today to tell me how his task didn't work, after probing a little I found out that he didn't do it the way that I had recommended but the way some one else told them how to do it. I had to walk away shaking my head. Sorry about ranting.

Dont be sorry for ranting. Rant away. Keeps us a little bit saner and keeps from doing other things.;)

It's human nature. Many people think that they're right and everyone else is wrong or it's just pride. These people get through life learning things the hard way.

On the other side of that coin, it's possible this person has asked for advice before and gotten bad advice so...
