With all of the UFO threads going on, I thought I'd ask how many members have actually seen a flying object that they couldn't identify.

Well, I meant for this to be a poll with a simple "Yes", "No", or "Maybe". Apparently I did something wrong.

I had a similar poll awhile back, but asked the question if ufo's are 'extraterrestrial' ...

Most responses were interesting, and I believe most were honest.

I have not seen a UFO, but many 'falling stars'.. meteors, etc.. With all the "credible" witnesses and videos - I have no doubt there are UFOs. To say there aren't, would be calling a lot of people liars.

I did see something once that I still can't explain. Doesn't mean it was an alien, it just means I can't explain it.

Give it a try.

Well I guess since the poll isn't working, this can be a post for anyone to share sightings that they've had. I might as well start it off - I am not making anything up here, but of course you can choose to believe me or not.

Some of you may have heard about the "Allagash Abductions". Well, I have spent lots of time in that area and have seen strange things myself. One year when I was younger, my grandmother even took a good video of a UFO. It was a big orange glowing orb that moved around the sky eratically, the likes of which many of us had seen with our own eyes. Unfortunately that tape was lost in a fire - too bad noone thought to make copies of it back then. Just a few years ago, I had an unforgettable experience while canoeing. The story is as follows:

My cousin and I decided to take a canoe trip a couple of years ago. The water was low, which made the trip very difficult, and we had left some of our supplies behind which meant we were really roughing it. We didn't make much progress on the first day since we had to drag the canoe most of the time. We spent a cold night camped on a sandbar, and in the morning we started off again. At this point we had just barely enough water to paddle instead of drag.

About an hour after launching, my cousin who was sitting in the bow turned to say something to me. I noticed a strange expression on his face as he looked up into the sky behind me. "What's that?" he asked. I turned to look, and saw a very large metallic object shining in the sun. "Oh, that's just a plane" I said. There were some rapids up ahead, so I had to pay attention to what I was doing. After we got through the rapids, I turned around and noticed that the object was still there, in the same position relative to us as it had been before. I could see it clearly at this point, and it obviously wasn't a plane. It looked like a giant metal blimp, and made no sound. It was moving, but so slowly that it appeared to stay in place in relation to our position.

My cousin and I thought it was really strange, but decided it must be a blimp. This made no sense at all really (no blimps are ever in this area) but it was our only rational explanation. As we continued down the river, this object stayed directly behind me and to my left. We started to feel like we were being followed, and that's when I joked about it being aliens coming to abduct us. My cousin had heard all about the famous Allagash abductions, and didn't laugh at my "joke". He seemed to be a bit nervous, and I have to admit I was feeling strange myself.

After a couple of hours, I looked back and couldn't see the object any more. It had dissapeared behind the cloud cover apparently. We stopped at a fishing spot for an hour or two, and caught some nice fish. After that we decided to continue down the river. There was no sign of the object now, although the sky was more cloudy so it's possible that it was still around. We saw deer and moose, and even a bear with two cubs along the way - but no more weird object in the sky.

Then - as it was getting dark and stars were starting to show, we saw a bright light on the horizon. It appeared white at first, but at times seemed to be more red and sometimes greenish (hard to explain). The light appeared, and then produced a bright flash and a streak as it appeared in another location. It kept doing this - moving around the sky seemingly at random, until it moved extremely fast in an upward arch with a visible trail of light behind it. Then there was a bright flash, and it was gone.

My cousin and I didn't know what to think or say. We talked about it excitedly for a while, then just quietly paddled as we each though about what we had experienced. It seemed almost like a dream, but we both saw these things and remember it well. Neither one of us talk much about it, because most people would just laugh at us.

Were these aliens coming to abduct us? I would like to think not (kind of a scary thought), but I really have no idea what it could have been. Secret government aircraft of some sort, checking to see if we were exceeding our limit on fish? I just have to pass it off as unidentified, because I can't even attempt to explain it.

I'll give it a go tomorrow. I'm about to leave work.

This might offend some, forgive me Joe.

I believe that sightings of extraterrestials are manifestations of Satans fallen angels. It is interesting to note that eyewitness accounts during the middle ages of evil spirits are strikingly similar to todays depictions of extraterrestials.

No, I've seen them too and the extra terrestrials are a a whole different critter!!! j/k

Aqualung, thanks for posting that. Too bad you didn't have a camera - but I know regular cameras and canoes usually don't mix. I used to have a canoe..

Matak, is there an explanation for the 'ufos' on the religious paintings I posted awhile ago? My guess is they would not paint demonic 'symbols' with what the paintings depicted.
