Hello!

I haven't been here for a while - I used to have a goldfish tank but I had to move out of my flat and sell it, and I was rather unwell for several years...

Anyway I want to get back into fish-keeping. I can't do goldfish again as I simply don't have the space requirements - I have a 5G freshwater tank with a heater if necessary and a HOB filter. I haven't cycled or anything yet as I'm not really sure what I want to do with it. My boyfriend is very reluctant to get into anything too intensive (I already have two hamsters) but I really want a tank of some description.

I was thinking of possibly doing a planted tank with maybe a few shrimps/snails/possibly a betta?

Any suggestions? I would preferably like to use it as a night-light, my boyfriend suffers night-terrors and we need something light in the room - so any circadian rhythm stuff would have to be considered too!

Thank you all so much <3

Betta tank or invert/shrimp tank. You could cover during the day and run at night. I used to do this for ptsd.

You may want to look into Badis Badis the scarlet color is my favorite. Very colorful and neat little fish.

You could do an invert tank with a Sparkling Gouramis. I have one, he/she was VERY shy when alone so I suggest trying to find a mated pair. You could do betta too. As for nightlight, you could set up a moonlight using a small LED setup just to add some light to the tank at night. Or cover it as suggested above.
