Cool, then cainster filters are the way to go with planted. They are a lot easier to control the surface turbulance with so you won't gas off CO2. Lights won't be cheap, but that's life. As for brands of filters..Eheim and Fluval are recommended a lot. Heaters I would use Tronic or Ebo-Jaeger.
