Got up this morning couldn't find my male clown anywhere.

Searched the tank in between the rocks still no sign of him.

Took off the lid and searched the back chambers removing the heater and pump, only to find that the male had been sucked into the stock pump, and he was dead.

This is the first time that he has done this and have no idea as to why he would jump into the chamber.

The female is searching everywhere for her mate, should i get another small clown? and will she stay female or will she change sex?

How would she react with another one in the tank?will she fight with it or will she accept another one?

I am heart broken.
Thanks.
Liz.

Really sorry to hear this...such a shame...Its usually something that spooks a clownfish, which makes them jump....

Yes, by all means get another, just ensure its smaller than the current female clown...Initially, she will toy and harass the new fish a little, but, this is just the female stamping her dominance on the new "male to be", and you should not worry about seeing this...

Hope all goes well..

Feel for you, if it makes you feel any better i lost 4 of my tangs in the space of two days. Pretty much my whole tank population has been wiped out from god knows what. Woke in the morning to find my two year old yellow tang stuck to my carpet, that was followed by the deaths of my regal, brown and sailfin tang all of which were in the tank for two years.

so keep your head up.

ouch!! I cant imagine loosing all my tangs in the course of two days,

I left my clown alone after the male died. After he died I noticed she would swim around the tank vrs just staying in the corner, now she's in the nem. w/ two B&W's everyone seems happy.

I lost my female clown the middle of Jan. I can certainly understand how you feel :( I had my pair for 5 yrs. Ethel finally laid her first clutch of eggs on a Tues. She died the following Monday. There wasn't a mark on her.
I just put in a juvi. When I first put him in he dove right into the frogspawn where my male was. The look on the male's face was hysterical.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my male clown one day for no reason. He ended up in my sump stuck to my return pump intake filter. Please don't let this get you down. There are times when we can do everything right and stuff just happens.

Best Wishes

Peace - - Mark
