What is a nice, cheap, low watt setup for a 55g? I currently have a 250w halogen over and im thinking its overkill.

I use a 100 watt incandescent for daytime heat, and a 60 watt blacklight bulb for nighttime heat. Cheap and works just fine. You don't need those expensive "reptile" lights.

Now, UV lighting is of course a whole 'nuther animal altogether... A good all in one is a MegaRay. They are pricey but worth it.

Note to add: 250 watts is definitely overkill. I use a 250 watt bulb for this enclosure...

Haha, yep thought so. Link me to the 100w please? This is just for geckos (tokays, leopards, cresties, etc) uv is not necessary atm

I get a pack of 6 of the 100 watts at the dollar store :D

The blacklight bulbs I get two for $6 something at Walmart.

Absolutely. Never had a problem.

Ceramic Heat Emitters also work great. They last for years and use less power than a similar sized light bulb. Only downside is that they can be pricey and don't give off any visible light.

I use a 100 watt CHE to heat my 50 gallon breeder Leopard Gecko setup.
