My Featherfin Synodontis has a bad habit of hiding behind the heater, and currently has a nasty inch-and-a-half long burn from it. I've looked around, but couldn't find good instructions on how to make a heater guard. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This isn't DIY but is really cheap!

And DIY

some people will make a "heater guard" out of PVC pipe. Cut a piece of PVC pipe that the heater will slide into longer than the heater. drill or cut a bunch of holes to allow water to circulate, and put the whole set up in the tank. The PVC prevents the fish from knocking the glass heater around and breaking it.

I've never tried it or even searched to see if it has been done but "plastic mesh" could probably be wrapped around a heater to prevent direct contact fairly easily...

the stuff I'm thinking of:

I guess they call it plastic canvas. I've used it as a growing medium for moss... pretty easy to cut and work with.

That sounds like a good idea... I'll try it out! Thank you.

What kind of heater are you using? My stealth's have never caused any issues. Past plecos as well as otos are always hanging out on my heater with not injuries.

Just an old glass Tetra heater.

He's four inches long, and I unstuck the heater from the tank wall so it would stick out at an angle -- I did that to try and keep him from leaning against it, but...
