Heater or not?

Depends what fish you're keeping. If they are really sensitive to temperature changes then yes. If not then probrably not. Oh and if you decide to keep a goldfish (which you shouldn't anyway in a 10gallon tank) then you don't need a heater because they are temperate fish and can survive in cold conditions.

Some of the more hardy fish that can live in give or take 10F of 75F shouldn't really need a heater because unless the temperature changes durastically during a short period of time in your house they should be okay.

I have 3 serpae tetras, 2 mickey mouse platies, 2 marble mollys, and 3 bumblebee gobys (I didnt know these were brackish fish when I got them) and my tank seems to have stayed around 75 to 77 F so far.

It should be okay if the temperature doesn't change a lot between night and day. Though if suddenly you find that your house is really cold because of some sort of storm moving in then it might cool your tank too quickly. The fish would probrably be healthier if you maintained a constant temperature. But then again they should do alright too without one because in the wild the temperature is never constant.

If the temp. fluctuates more than a degree or two overnight, then you should get a heater. Constant fluctuations, especially large ones, can make the fish susceptible to disease. Are you getting up in the middle of the night to check the temp? !!! It would not take long for a 10g to fluctuate.

Your gobes haven't died yet? How are they doing in freshwater?

Actually they seem to be thriving. Swiming around eating and just doing fine. I am surpised after I found out they are a brackish fish. I didnt know that when I got them, but they really do seem happy.

Do yourself a favor, just go out and buy a heater, they aren't that expensive. With those fish, you need a stable tank temprature.

Well it will have to wait at least a week. I am surprised I need one. I keep my house at a constant 75, summer winter fall and spring. Im a native floridian, and it really doesnt get too cold here, even when it is cold my heat is set to 75, I have been checking the temp of the tank every morning noon and night for a few days now and it hasnt changed.
