I have a 50W heater in a 10g freshwater tank and even though the setting is on high it won't go up to 80 degrees. In fact the temperature is declining. Should I get a more powerful heater or is there something else I'm over looking? Thanks for the help:)

Dumb question, but is the heater actually heating? Like is the light on? I would suspect heater failure, unless you live in Iowa like me, and are keeping your tank outside.......... :D

A 50W heater should be fine for a 10-gallon tank if the room temperature is reasonable, so I wouldn't get something more powerful.

I think Jason hit the nail on the head. It might be time for a new (more reliable) heater. What brand of heater do you have?
