Good morning to all! Is it normal for the water temperature to be higher than what a heater is set to? My 55 gallon submersible heater used to be set to 75 F and the water temp. got up to 85 F so I decrease the heater temp. to 71 F. It seems as though the submersible heater in my 10 gallon is doing the same thing. It's set to 75 F, the water is currently at 80 F and the heater is still not turning off. I don't think my heaters are damaged for I take really good care of my things. Thanks in advance!

You have to turn it off just until it barely lights at the proper temperature, try putting some cold water in small one gallon increments till it reaches 75 or desired temperature. Right at that temperature setting, slowly turn the dial so that the light barely stays lit that is how your set it.
Ignore the markings on your heater and use the thermometer. Heaters are notorious for having terrible calibrations of the silly indicator dials. About all those temperature markings do is tell you what way to turn the knob to get the desired temperature.
:nilly:Im always fighting with my heaters! I have a used one that I should replace,but the other is new(2 months old). They stay the same temp for a week then I fight to keep a constant temp the next week! IDK no major room temp swings but my tanks go up and down 5+ deg. Mine are both HOB heaters and I have thermometers.
