Heater question

I had a tera heater that almost cooked my fish. So it is time to go. Today while on my lunch break I went to Petsmart to purchase a Marineland Stealth. Not paying attention I purchased a 250w. Question is will this be too much heater for my 50g hex?

No. I prefer 5w/gal, but my house stays at the chilly side in winter. Also would have done two heaters at 125-150 each vice one.

not too much of an issue..save over the long run your thermocouple may get a bit more wear over time as a larger heater in a smaller tank tends to 'short cycle' meaning the thermocouple will open and close more frequently..

but it probably won't hurt anything.
