does anyone know what would happen if a fake plant rested against the heater for extended periods of time? It seems like it might melt, but would it release any gases into the water? The plant is a mixture of plastic and silk. The plant in question is "Background Plant" by Imagine. It is sold at Petsmart, if any of you are familiar. It says on the back:
-Hides unsightly wires, filter tubes, and heaters.
Should I trust it?

If the heater got hot enough to melt a plant, you would have fish stew long before that!

very interesting, It seemed like to me the water would cool down anything too hot, but the melted plastic, gas thing got me weirded out. Thanks for your feedback guys!
