Heaters for 1-5 gallon tanks?

I believe the lowest watt stealth is a 25 watt. Wouldn't that be too extreme for a small 1-3 gallon?

I mean I do understand having an adjustable temperature setting is a good thing but I am leaning towards the 10 watt shatterproof heater since it is preset at 78 degrees and probably wont fluctuate compared to the hydro ones that keep it +5 degrees from room temperatures only.

You can cycle a cup of water if you want to. Visi-therms have a feature that turn off the heater when it hits a certain temperature and turn back on after it drops. Meaning, they will never overheat a tank.

But how stable would that cup of water be? I want something that is able to sustain itself though for at least a week before I do partial water change.

boobiebutt,
I'm just adding my two cents so, if it helps great, if not no biggy. The first two heaters if I remember correctly (emphasis on remember) will only raise the water temp by about 5 degrees or so. Also, I had the 10 watt shatter proof heater from Marineland. It did not work for me. First it is only 10 watts which means it stays on for a longer period of time to heat the water. Second, there is no light to indicate when it is on or off. This may or may not be an issue for you. Third, the suction cups did not hold the heater to the side of my tank. This may or may not happen to you. The weight of the cord is a factor. I would wake up in the morning and find the heater dangling in the tank. Again just adding my two cents for whatever it is worth. I would recommend the visi therm stealth 25 watt heater provided it is a 2 gallon and up tank. Do not use a 50 watt heater. Because of the small tank size it will shorten the heater life. It will cycle on and off too much and possibly ruin the contacts in the heater. I hope this helps.

shatter-proof is the best idea. I use a 50 watt in my 5 gallon which is slightly over-kill. It is also submersible. Seems to work best for the fish if I slightly push it not the substrate (not bury it).
