It sounds like it's coming both of the heaters. But both at random times. I'm wondering if it's the glass cooling, that's making that knocking / popping sound. It's not LOUD, but it's audible definately. They are Aqueon 300 watt heaters.

They are set to 83 degrees.

Any help would be great, thanks.

It could be the heater turning on/off. A lot of heaters make a "click" sound whenever they turn on/off.

I have heard mine make the same noise before...mine would do it while it was on...Havent heard it in awhile though. First time I heard it I thought I had a piece of something in the impellar of my filter until I put my ear closer and found out it was my heater making the noise.

pretty sure that's just the heater turning on and off. :) mine scared me when i first had my tank in the bedroom.

It's multiple times. I'm thinking it's cooling down maybe.

Yeah, I was like wtf when I heard it, cause I've never heard a heater do that.

my heater will make a clicking sound when it turns on and off.

just make sure that anything isnt cracking though, just in case.
I've heard a heater click off, and I have inspected it for cracks, but I see none. On one I do see a small amount of condensation inside, but it is very very minimal.

I just hope it's not cracking lol.

OOOOOOOOOo!

i have wondered what was making that stupid noise! hahaha

wow.
Yeah, I was really suprised at it. I've only heard it from these Aqueon heaters, not my Guardian or my Stealth.

Before I read the replies to this thread I had thought it was oxygen getting stuck in the heater....but the heater turning on and off makes a lot more sense

its definitely the internal thermostat...

i tested this a while back because i was curious. i sat in the dark, and every time it clicked, the on/off indicator light either turned on or off.

if your heater was cracking, you would notice by now. :)

Mine would do it almost continuous while the light was on...mostly seemed to do it after a water change for a day or two.... I assumed it might have been the tiny bubbles that sometimes form on things after a WC causing it to make noise..... but it hasnt done it in awhile and there have been many times that bubbles have formed on the glass of the heater and it hasnt made a sound. I even checked to be sure water wasnt somehow seeping in it and have never seen any....It still remains a mystery why it was doing it but heater has continued to work as it should so if it starts popping again I will look at it closer but I havent seen any ill effects of it so I havent give it much more thought until I saw this thread.
