I am trying to decide between two models of heaters, The Visi-Therm Deluxe and the Tronic. I would please like opinons these two brand of heaters. Which would you considered the better heater or are they comparable? Also should I go for the 25 watt or the 50 watt for a 5.5 gallon tank? Thanks.

I have a Visi-Therm Deluxe in both of my tanks, so I can only comment on these. I have a 50w in my 6 gallon betta tank, and a 50w in my 20L. I was told that there is not a big difference between a 25w and a 50w and if you ever get a bigger tank, you can transfer the heater.

I have never had a problem with either of these heaters. I think they work fine. They are a little pricey though, but the price difference between the two is only about a dollar.

However, I might add that I do find about a 2-3 degree difference between the temp you set it to and the temp that it gets the water. I set it to 76 degrees and the temp of the water usually gets up to 78 or 79 (probably has some other variables to contribute like lighting and daytime temp.)

I have tronic in each of my tanks, I got one once and liked it so I continued buying them. I don't have any experience with the other brand so I can't comment.

Not too many bells and whistles as far as heaters go, just avoid the cheap ones :). I find the tronics to be durable in my turtle and cichlid tanks where they take quite a beating.

Hope that helps.

I have 2 tronic 200 watt heaters in my tank and they are great. The only thing it that I wish the cord was a bit longer, it's 4 1/2 feet as opposed to all the other ones being between 5 and 6 feet.

i'm a big fan of the visi-therm heaters. i use a 50w on a 20g tank (of course, this is plenty for the climate i live in), and it is a picture of perfection. i also use a higher wattage model on a 50g tank. no problems at all. i've never used tronics, so i can't comment on them, though they do have a good reputation. i have used ebo jagers, and while i don't like them as much as the visi-therms, they are also dependable, tough heaters.

from my experience on this board and throughout the internet in general, i would say the consensus i've seen on heaters would be:

#1 ebo jager
#2 visi-therm
#3 tronic
then everything else

I agree with the above mostly, but with the minor revision that Tronics and Ebo Jager are generally recommended more than Visi-Therms. The reality is that all 3 are good heaters, so you most likely won't be disappointed with any of them.

well, clearly, we can say that those 3 are above the rest by far. i don't think i've seen ANY other models recommended with the regularity that i see these 3 brands. i do see a lot of "ebo v. visi-therm" debates though, where tronics are excluded. that, and my personal success with the visi-therms, led me to rank them like that. either way, i would suggest that you can basically rely on any of those models and be satisfied, based on my experience and what i've read from others.

Agreed. I use Ebos and Tronics. I really like these two brands...excellent heaters. Based on the favourable reviews of Visi-therms, I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up, but given a choice, I usually stick with what I know.

I prefer Ebo-Jager, but had to order it online. Stores don't seem to stock the Ebo's down here --- that goes for many other products too.. :(
