Heaters

I'd take serious issue with the Rena Excel recommendation, esp. over Tronic. If you do a search for all the threads regarding heaters on a variety of fish boards, you'll repeatedly see good experiences with Tronic and Ebo Jagers. (This is not to say that no one has ever had a bad Ebo or Tronic.) You won't find the same level of recommendation for Rena heaters. They just aren't as well made or as reliable.

I've had good experiences with tronic heaters. One big plus is that there isn't a mechanical contact to possibly stick on and boil your fish.

Jim: I am only going on personal experience. I own them but that is besides the point. I like mine as much as I like my ebos and titanium heaters.

At the store they have been fantastic heaters for us. Very accurate even during the coldest part of winter and last January was a doosey up here. The store has almost 200 tanks roughly 40% are Renas the rest are now Ebos especially after the Marineland problems

Just last week our 75 gallon show tank for filters and heaters drained overnight after no one noticed that a customer had accidently knocked the middle air tube for the eheim pro 2 series wet/dry to the floor. The whole tank drained.

All the heaters with the exception of the Ebo and the Rena Excel were fried. Some cracked some looked like they exploded. The marineland just fell apart and was still live. The Ebo and Rena both shut off and were fine. In fact we are still using the same two in the tank right now.

I don't dislike the tronics. I'm just more partial to the others.
