Yes, that is a big problem. Fish are stressed with the temp. changes. It is best to get a new heater.

I would think that a 2 degree shift isn't that big a deal. Temperature changes stress fish, but that change is nearly negligible. In a natural habitat the water temperature is going to fluctuate too, probably more than 2 degrees

When do the temperature changes happen? Are you seeing it go up when the tank lights are on?

My tank temp goes down 2 degrees at night, fish are all fine as long as it is gradual and not all at once they will be fine.

Mine fluctuate as much as four degrees day and night, not a big deal although four degrees is probably pushing it some.

A two degree variance is no big deal. Keep an eye on it, though, to make sure that is all that it is.

Also, along the same lines as mishi8's question, waht kind of lighting do you have? Incandescent lighting can jack up the temp on tanks.

My water temp moves with the room temperature. I would guess the room temp is heating or cooling the water while the heater is set at a temp below your room temp.

Really? so wild fish are stessed from water temp changes that CHANGE daily. A few degrees differnce does not matter.

Qucik question: besides stressing fish and causing them to maybe contract ich or something, what other specific things can come from instant temperature fluctuations?
