heating a 125gal

Is the tank covered? You should have enough wattage if the room temp is around 70....uncovered and room near 60 might be an issue.

Try turning them off and cranking the dial all the way up then down...wait...reset to temp and plugging back in.

So I guess on Monday I'll call Marineland to see about getting them replaced through the warranty. Does anyone have any suggestions until then? I'm sure there's not much anyone can do, they just don't work, but thought I'd ask...
Thanks all for the help

kick your room temp up a bit if you can....even 72 should be okay till replacements come.

Is there any moisture in the heaters? I had bought the same exact heater on Black Friday and just recently had to contact Marineland for a replacement. The heater would light up to show that it was trying to heat but would be producing no heat at all. It worked fine up until the recent week or so. I did a little looking and found that sometimes the seals aren't great and water gets inside then they stop working. Sucks for us that just bought the dang things but for other people, they have had them running for years without issue. Marineland did make good on their warranty though and my replacement came in on Thursday. I just hope this one is a good one.

I have 2 separate 150 gallon tanks with lids. Each tank has one 300 W heater and I dont have any problems maintaining 78-80F in each tank.

Sorry, I think I gave the impression that the aquarium has fish in it. It does not yet, I had just finished fishless cycling it when I realized the heaters weren't working.

where you place it and how the water circulate is important.

I have two 200w on my 168g, only one working on 76 degree, the other is set on 73 degree, which is a backup.

both heaters are in the sump and placed right in the fast flowing returning water.
heater works better and more accurate in the fast flowing water since the heat it creates draw away by the water fast and it can reset itself to the lower temp water that follow.

And, in the main tank the water circulation is constant and there is no dead spot, so the temp is even throughout, 76degree.
last, Insulation, the tank is covered, bottom and top, with polystyrene, and the sump compartment is covered as well, room temp reach 55 sometimes(old house, the ceiling insulation is not good, so it is cold at night), but the water is always 76 + 0.5 , with only one 200w heater working.

I put a 100 watt in my 120 gal and it got to 76 degrees. you have plenty of wattage. check to see that your turned the thermostatic control the right way. some are confusing you might have them set to cold! if that does not work return them and get new ones. make sure your thermometer is working right too!
