I am sort of new to having fish but everything has been good so far. My grandparents used to have a 125 tank and I just have always wanted one. I had millions :evil_lol: of guppies but always wanted africans.

I have had this set up for a little over a month and have changed the layout many times.

My tank is a 55 gal and is curretly stocked with:

1x Red Zebra
3x Kenyi 1M 2 F
2x OB Zebra
2X Yellow Tail Acei
1x Aurtus
5x misc. havent found type yet

Added some decor.

I didn't really like the open areas and no places really to hide so I added some rocks. I liked this look but I thought it gave to much open area height wise.

This is another rescape to add a few more caves.

Still could not be happy with the setup and changed it one last time.

I really like this as it offers plenty of caves and hiding space and still leaves a little open area.

Sorry I dont have pics of everything but please give me some feedback.

My only question is how much should I be feeding them? I dont mean how often I would like to know about how much I should be feeding them. Lets say if you were to use a shot glass how much would you add? A full shot glass? half a glass? 2 pinches? They eat all the food very quickly and always seem to eat so I am not sure if they get enough as it is. I currently feed 2 pinches a couple times through out the day and they eat everytime. I just would like to know a visualization of how much food i should be using.

Thanks

The rock, caves, "hidey spots" like the last few pics seems ok. As far as feeding, floating pellets, spirulina. Younger fish can be fed twice a day. As they get older once is fine. I switch between pellets and spiru. Giving a break from feeding once or twice a week is fine too. Biggest advice is to research.

i think you may need a bigger tank in the future.

I feed mine quite a bit I guess and they always seem hungray. Tank size is a non issue so far and if I have problems in the future. They I can deal with it then. I do agree I am taking a chance with the kenyi.

If you use flakes, feed them as much as they can eat in just 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. If using pellets, spread 2 pinches throughout the water surface and if many pellets reach the bottom, you may be feeding to much; so reduce to 1 pinch. Feed them this way twice a day. A fasting day each week is good for them.
Use at least 2 types of food for them by now: a good pelleted food for African cichlids and a good flake food for cichlids with veggies and spirulina.
Good luck!

Does anyone know what the last yellow fish is? I thought maybe a lab but he is more of a golden yellow.

To me the yellow fish looks like a yellow lab, red zebra cross, which is actually pretty common. Are you sure that tank is 55? I have a 55 gallon but it looks longer.

I really don't know about the size I was assured by the seller that it was a 55 gal. I really don't think it is because its only 3ft long but it is really tall. I think it is a 46gal but am not sure. I like it and fish seem to like it so no problems yet :).
