Hello folks

Been lurking for a while but I now have to post due to a problem in the tank and hoping for some advice.

The tank was recently stripped down, three weeks back and all live rock, fish and corals pLaced into a couple of quarantine tanks. The tank was refilled with 50% old water kept up to temp. and aerated and 50% RO water, rocks, corals and fish put back three days later along with new substrate (2" of washed coral sand).

Everything fine, ammonia zero, nitrate zero, nitrite zero, PH 8.2, temp 25.5C, SG at 1.021, skimmer fine, UV new lamp not long back etc.

First problems arose a week ago when the Cream Angel of five years started to develop a white/grey powdery sheen and eyes became cloudy and flicking against the rockwork. Seeking local advice from my usual marine outlet, I used a product called Oodinex that should sort our Marine whitespot, Finrot (Angels fin did seem to be receeding and becoming more ragged) and Oodinium. A week later, breathing appeared to be shallow and quick eventually lying on it's side on the substrate. Yesterday I had to dispath the fish.

Today, I notice my male percula acting in a similar manner and a very faint grey/white powdery coating appeared, has left his mushroom to swim constantly in current and flashing with shallow breathing.

Anyone out there got any idea's what the next plan of action should be? The clown has been with me for seven years and is the life and sould of the tank.

Thanks in advance.

It does sound very much like oodinium. How long have you been treating? I've gotten mixed reviews about Oodinex as beig effective in treating parasites. I think your best bet might be to remove the fish to quarantine, and treat with Cupramine. Leave the fish in quarantine for 6 weeks, and run the main tank at 86 F during this time to kill off any remaining parasites in the tank. Sorry--not the best news, but parasites can be tough to treat with further stressing the fish or using non-reef safe medications.

Ahh, there is life in Wyoming then huh?

Only zapped it the once for the three day period as per instructions, the q tank has now been broken up and will take a few days to get back up and running. Not too sure the wee fella has that long to go but I can't watch him, his girlfriend and the yellow tang go the same way.

Thanks for the advice.
