Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately, I don't have a beautiful fancy tank full of amazing fish to show off here. All I have is one turtle in a 110 gallon stock tank filtered by a Rena Filstar xp3. It is about as un-fancy as it gets. That's the way turtles like it, I'm afraid! Clean water, walls he won't swim into when running away from his own shadow, and a warm place to get out and dry off when he needs to is all it takes to make my turtle happy. Anything else he will either eat or shred, Unless he is supposed to eat it. Then he will keep it as a pet.... Enter Goldie, the 8-inch-long "feeder" fish that has lived in the tank with him for two years, since she was barely an inch long. She and a dozen of her friends were put into the tank to keep Stumpy (that's my turt) fed while my husband and I went out of town. When we returned, she was the only fish left... and she still lives in the tank with him today, eating his food and sleeping right next to him when the lights go out. Weird. There are a few others that he has decided to keep around as well, but none have lived in there or have grown as large (yet) as Goldie.

Anyway, I also belong to another forum called the Happy Turtle's Pub, where I was a Global Moderator until I stepped down last summer... but I wanted to join a forum that would help me to get some insight into the science and mechanics involved in filtration and water quality, rather than the needs of the animal itself -- and so I thought I would snoop around here for a while and see if there is anything here that will help me understand a few things that aren't touched upon at HTP.

That's all there is to say about me, I guess. Thanks for reading!
