I am relatively new to fishkeeping - had a goldfish that was kept in a 10 gallon tank just pass after 6 years....so I re-did the tank with some tropical fish.

Likely most (if not all) of you will feel my tank is overstocked...like many newbies, I bought first, asked questions later...I have 7 neon tetras, 4 guppies (all male) and a ghost shrimp in that same 10 gallon.

Looking towards upgrading to a 29 gallon maybe next year, so I'm trying to get educated before I expand.

Welcome to AC!

Welcome to AC, I feel that u are maybe just slighlty over stocked, but since they are community fish, provided you have adequate filtration, you should be fine. There is actually a thread on here some where, that you can calculate if you are over stocked.

usually i tell people an inch of fish per gallon. and with 11 one inch fish in a 10 gal, your only about a gallon overstocked.

your tank looks beautiful by the way!

Welcome to AC! I wouldn't go by the inch of fish per gallon rule, it's way too generic. It doesn't take enough into account. Your tank isn't too overcrowded in my opinion, especially if you do regular maintenance with good filtration.
