Help - 30 Gallon Saltwater Tank

I'm really curious about these numbers cuz it scares the crap out of me. I got my tank for under a 100.00 (29gallon) with glass lid. My live rock will cost about 400.00. My lights 250.00. My filters, powerhead, skimmer...I'm guessing less than 300.00 altogether though I haven't ordered yet. So, we are up to 1050.00...is anything left but live sand and fish? What am I missing here?

Things like refactometer, salt, test kits, food, etc. Not to mention if you get corals and want to start a dosing system for calcium and alk especially. Add on top of that upgrades in equipment. The $300 you budgeted for powerhead/skimmer/filter could go up when you decide you only want the rock for filtration but you also hate the skimmer you bought and want different powerheads. We all change equipment, or at the very least add to it.

You don't have to sell your first born to have a marine tank, but generally speaking you'll invest more than you thought you might when first taking the plunge.

just try not to think about it, thats what I do, lol. And while spending all this money on the tank, you can't afford food so its kind of like a diet! hahaha

Exactly. Now I'm starting to think about it because of this. I know I'm past 1000. eeeik!!!

good thing my boyfriend doesn't think about that kind of stuff, I don't think he would allow us to have the tank anymore!

Well we just started a 75 gallon cycle for the first time and were at about $1,300.00. We still need lights and a skimmer and power heads and, and, and, and. Do you see where I'm going with this.
