HELP!!!!! 5 Angels dead

Update!

One more Angel dead! Three left, (two tiny ones and a small/medium sized veil Marble). In answer to an earlier question - I've had all of my Angels for about one month and they all hung out together and seemed to get along as a group. This situation did not begin until about two days after I got rid of my GOLD GOURAMI. My Dwarf Gouramies leave the Angels alone and both seem to be hiding themselves now - the only thing different I've done is replace the Gold Gourami with the two white Mollies, although I think maybe the Serpae tetras may be becoming more aggressive- but I was under the impression that they wouldn't bother other fish because I have 6 of them! What would happen if I purchased two very large Angels I saw the other day (they were about 4-5" tall)? Would their size make them "bully-proof"? By the way everyone - thanks for your input :)
 
No way , man. Don't buy anymore fish until you figure out what is wrong with your tank. It may be your water conditions and not bullying that is killing your fish.

There could be copper or some other substance in your tap water, or your PH could be way off, who knows. Check everything, not just ammonia and nitrites.

were the ones that died..small?how small? dime size, quarter size etc
young angels can die for no reason or they can be tough..a lot of if's for young angels
 
To answer your questions......

You're right . I think I should also test PH and whatever else there is. I've only ever tested for ammonia and nitrites, and being fairly new to this I'm not sure what other kinds of test kits I should buy. Any suggestions? (Keep it simple - I'm not very good in the science department!)

Also - these two white Mollies - they look pretty much identical to each other - how can I tell if they're male or female?

I think all of my Angels are/were quite young - most ranging in size from about a quarter, to the size of a toonie (I'm Canadian and we have crazy money here in case you're wondering) and the largest was a pink pearly one- about two inches in size.

I hope I don't have any weird Angelfish disease in my tank. :eek: Are there any kinds of sicknesses that only affect Angels?

What happened is that you introduced a not well known angel fish disease into your tank when you brought the mollies in. there is not a cure for it that I know of. I had my breeding stock wiped out by this about a year ago. some of the other breeders that I have talked to have had the same thing happen. Were they twitching toward the top of the tank?

If this is the case and the Mollies introduced an Angelfish disease into my tank does this mean it will always be in the tank, even after all of the Angels die, and does it mean that the Mollies will always carry it and I can never have Angels in the tank again, without re-doing the whole tank from ground zero? How do Mollies have it if it is an Angelfish disease? Can you tell me more about the symptoms? I'm not sure if the Angels that died were "twitching" towards the top of the tank, but they were definitely hanging out near the surface and were "twitching" while they were trying to swim just before they would die.

it is possible that the survivors..may be immune. I would hesitate to add any new angels until you can find out more.
 
My stock now has seen the disease twice and have immunity. I have not introduced any new angel fish to my tank since the last occurance. I would suggest maybe ordering a UV sterilizer that may solve some of your problems in the future. The angel virus is bad news.
