HELP!!!! .8 ppm ammonia!!!!

What ever happend to meds? Seems like everytime something gets "something" the advice is to throw salt, garlic, peas or shake a dead chicken head over the tank.
Step one- Get maracide
step 2- treat tank as directed
step3- ich gone.

No need to raise the temp or QT. That uncycled tank is doing FAR more dammage then some proper meds.

Personally, I've had great results using aquarium salt to treat ich. We've had it to show up three times in fish bought at Wal Mart (please don't throw things), and lost no fish. We left the temp. alone also. Hope this helps.

i could not put ich meds in my large tank; i have chemical filtration which is a ***** to take out from the filter.

quick cure worked for my fish..you would need to take the carbon out of your filter tho..

Salt all the way here...no need to remove carbon, or change anything really other than bumping your temp up if you want to speed the life cycle of the ich.

the ich was minor and its almost gone, so ill put the fish back in the main tank sometime tomorrow.

the fish experienced .7 ppm ammonia for about 20 hours. will they be permanently damaged?

as a note, during this time of increased ammonia, they acted fine and their fins werent clamped.

anyone?

There is no way to know if they were permenatly damaged, but I doubt a short exposure will effect them. Hopefully the Ich has ran it's course. Are you sure the main tank was not exposed to the Ich? It would suck to have quarintined the 3 goldfish seperatly only to find out the main tank is still diseased. There has to be an easy way to remove your carbon, Have you ever changed it before? Carbon needs to be replaced to be effective about every 3 weeks. I doubt any filter maker would make this a painstaking task, keep in mind they want you you want you to change your filter contents as much as possible. It's their bread and butter.

im guessing it was stress that caused them to get the ich, but the fish are back in the tank and everythin is fine.
