I have a tiger barb that has had a bad gill since got it a couple months ago, but today I noticed it was alot worse. It started out as the Gill was just protruding out a little. Now it's gills are hanging out and look like they might be raw. And he stays at the top by the bubbler getting air now.

I have 4 tiger barbs and a couple cory's and the tank was cycled before anything went in. Is there some kind of medicine I should put in or put him in a seperate tank?

I MIGHT try a bacterial medicine for this situation even though I tend to stay away from meds and other chemicals. You may want to look at a product called Melafix and/or Primafix. One of them will help with infections and parasites, I believe, and the other will help with healing. Right now I cannot remember which one does what. These are also all natural chemicals and so, IMO they are safer.

Also, what are your water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, Ph)? This could be a case of ammoia burn or too much nitrites or nitrates. I would do a water change as soon as you can to make sure that the nitrates are kept at low levels. Ph is important because at a higher Ph, ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates become more toxic than at lower Ph levels.

The ammonia and nitrite's are at 0 and the nitrates are at 10 to 20 I can't tell exactly with my test kit, the colors are so close.
